Aikido is a dynamic Art. it has been developed from Jiu-jitsu and ws created by O'Sensei. It is a blend of joint Locks and Throws, kicks and punches, holds to subdue or disable an opponent. Aikido is designed to use the attackers strentgh against them, which means there is a great emphasis put on technique. As stated by the founder (Morihei Ueshiba) "Aikido is 90% Atemi". Alot of the problem is people get caught up in the throwing and the limited form of attack and believe that this is what is supposed to be done and that if attacked in any other way, then it's not Aikido. O'Sensei was asked once What he would do if he was attacked, he said "I would take what was nearest to me and transfer my ki through it". It's important to read between the lines of this mysterious Art, that has left so many un-answered questions behind, but if you look hard enough, they are all there.
Aikido is a beautiful art and draws on the attention of anyone who sees it. It is very versatile and effective as a Martial Art if taught correctly. We do weapon work such as: Jo, Bokken, Baton, Katana and Tanto. Each technique is explained to the Aikidoka in great detail and different scenarios set-up to help them develop them.
